2014 Toyota Tacoma V6 Oil Change

It's time to change the oil on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4X4.
I change it at the 15,000 mile interval with Signature Series 5W-30.

My Tacoma has the 4.0L V6 engine with the 6 speed transmission.
The engine is all stock, for now. Yes, I know she's a little dusty.
She's my daily driver.

Toyota has made it simple to change the oil with the oil filter placement.
This speeds up the process and helps reduce oil spills.

I'll be using an AMSOIL Ea 15K 51 oil filter with 5 1/2 quarts of Signature
Series 5W-30. And of course my favorite oil funnel that threads into the fill spout which makes this oil change even easier.

Find the oil drain plug which can be found on my Tacoma in the opening of the skid plate.  Make sure you do not loosen the transmission drain (Manual transmission drain plug shown with RED arrow)  thinking it is the motor oil drain.  I have read this is a common problem.  Use a 14 mm socket and ratchet to break loose the oil drain plug. Loosen the rest by hand and remove the plug to the drain the oil into your drain pan. Make sure you have a spill rag available to wipe up any mess and do not lose the drain plug gasket.

Drain the oil into your drain pan.  I leave it draining and move onto the oil filter.

While the oil is draining, drain and remove your oil filter. First grab a container to contain the filter spill. I installed a vacuum hose cap on the bottom of my filter drain to help with the mess, which i remove at this point.  I set the red solo cup in place and then loosen the oil filter but only enough to let the oil drain out.  Let the oil drain to the cup.

Once the oil filter is completely drained, remove the filter.
Make sure the oil filter gasket remains on the old oil filter.

Use your finger to add a layer of new clean oil to the oil filter gasket.
Install the new filter finger tight and then tighten 3/4 of a turn more with a filter wrench.

Your oil should be completely drained by now and you can re-install the drain plug. Snug the drain plug or tighten it to 30 foot pounds if you are a perfectionist.  Wipe up any oil spills and any oil around the drain plug so you can see if it begins leaking.

Now it's time to fill the engine with 5 1/2 quarts of AMSOIL Synthetic.
I like to leave the bottle in the funnel for a few seconds to ensure all oil is drained from the bottle.

Use the indicator lines on the side of the bottle to add half of
a quart of the last bottle for a total of 5 1/2 quarts.

ENJOY!
